Diablo 4 Item Upgrades
Upgrades to items let players raise the level of items that can be equipped, such as weapons or armor, as well trinkets up to a certain amount. You can upgrade item s at any NPC that accepts the appropriate currency.

To upgrade a piece of gear, you will need 1 of 3 Power Dices. The first Power Dice is available from any monster who is more than 21 years old, whereas the second two are only available from Giants and Bosses. Each upgrade will cost you a different amount of Erons and Minerals. The more powerful an item and the more expensive it is.
Most weapons have a higher trade value when upgraded fully because of their increased base damage. However, there are some weapons that have a high value of trade even without upgrading due to their useful stats that are appropriate for certain models (e.g. Whistan's Shield for FB sorc's). There are also a few unique and set items that don't require upgrading since they have minimal requirements or benefits from upgrading (e.g. Goldwrap, Naj's puzzler staff.
Some sets have set bonuses that can provide additional effects if Link wears the whole set. These are useful in certain situations, for instance when exploring the Gerudo Desert or in a dungeon. The Desert Voe Set, for example, has the Stealth Up feature that makes it easier to sneak past enemies.
Universal upgrades are able to be installed on any kind of equipment. These upgrades provide smaller bonuses than those that are restricted to specific types, but they are much easier to obtain. Some of these upgrades can be made into gems by a jeweler. They can be used to upgrade any trinket slot. Other upgrades are inorganic augmentations that can only be slotted into weapons, and offer a small benefit that doesn't boost damage.
Requirements
The ability to upgrade items is an essential aspect of improving your characters effectiveness and strength in battle. The upgrades to an item can increase the item's base stats or add a new prefix or suffix. The amount of stats that an item can upgrade depends on its rarity. Upgrades can be found in dungeons, raids, or bought from vendors. You can also get them as a random item or by taking loot from other players.
There's no tenable game design solution to the issue of the "not worth it" feeling that some players feel about upgrading certain items. The game should provide more information in its compare interface on upgrades, like: "X stats gained, or X stats lost." This isn't practical to implement because of the complexity of the process of comparing. There's simply too little space to perform it in a proper manner within the UI.
A script that examines the requirements for upgrading an item prior to allowing the item to be upgraded is another option. This method is ideal for systems with only a small amount of upgradeable items and a few upgrade dependencies. One example is a sword that can be upgraded from Sword +1 to Sword +2. A script could look up the Item Definition attribute for each upgrade and set an Item Status of "upgraded" to show that the upgrade was valid.
This option is more flexible than the two previous ones however it requires some additional code. It's also not suitable for very complex systems.

Costs

The number of crests and Flightstones needed to upgrade an item varies on the level of the gear, and a maximum upgrade level is determined by Blizzard. Upgrades to the highest level can be costly particularly when it comes to upgrading PvE gear.
Upgrades can also modify a weapon's ammunition, or damage die size. They also can alter the special characteristics of a weapon like its bulky or operative property, or hand requirement. Certain upgrades can alter the appearance of weapons.
Before you make a decision before making a decision, you must consider the cost of upgrading an item. You may decide to make use of your gold to upgrade rare items, but do not spend it on standard or magic-tier items.
